Employer Relations Internship

Career and Professional Development’s (CPD) Employer Relations Internship is designed to assist with efforts to identify, enhance, and further develop productive organizational relationships in the greater D.C. metro area to meet unique student employment needs. This position is part-time and will operate remotely while being supervised by the Graduate Career Advisor for the greater D.C. metro area as well as the Associate Director for Employer Relations.


The intern will assist with the following key responsibilities:

  • Gathering information on key characteristics of departmental programs and student cohorts that can be marketed to employers. This will require coordinating with multiple departments, managing and maintaining provided materials in an accessible drive, and disseminating information to identified employers as needed/requested. There will also be extensive communication and networking with faculty to aid in the facilitation of the employer recruitment process.
  • Identifying unique student employment needs. This will include assisting with the marketing and rollout of a student survey as well as with the downloading and organizing of results.
  • Performing DC-area employer research based on gathered data of student employment needs. This will include identifying existing departmental and/or CPD relationships through departmental outreach and use of Handshake, contact information, company overview, international student hiring ability, and other provided search criteria. Information will need to be organized and maintained in a shared, accessible drive.
  • Creating, facilitating, and marketing employer engagement opportunities. This will include marketing opportunities to students, whether through creating a promotional piece and/or disseminating the information to the appropriate contacts and through the appropriate channels.


Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be enrolled in a Virginia Tech graduate program within the greater D.C. metro area
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Proficient with Microsoft platforms
  • Some design and marketing experience


Preferred Qualifications:

· MBA with a concentration in Human Resources and/or experience in human resources and recruiting


Expected start date is June 1, 2022 with an end date of August 19, 2022. Up to 20 hours per week with a wage offering of $19/hour.
