Shenandoah County is inviting applications for the position of Finance Specialist within the County’s Department of Finance.


Shenandoah County is seeking an accounting professional to serve as Finance Specialist within the County’s Department of Finance. The Finance Specialist performs intermediate professional and skilled technical and administrative work involving the preparation and/or maintenance of fiscal or related records; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Finance Director.


Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, methods, and practices; thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices as their application to a variety of accounting transactions; thorough knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Word; thorough knowledge of ERP computer systems (AS400 preferred); strong quantitative and analytical skills; ability to operate standard office, personal computer, calculator, and related equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and follow work procedures; ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in a highly inter-active team oriented work environment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers the general public; ability to prioritize work and complete work under strict deadlines; ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.


Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the area of accounting, business, finance, or related field with considerable experience in accounting or finance work, preferably in local government finance, budgeting, or other similar setting. Bachelor’s degree in the area of accounting, business, finance, or related field is preferred.


The annual pay range for this FLSA non-exempt position is $45,292.01 to $72,467.22, commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The County offers an excellent benefits package, including Virginia Retirement System, health and dental insurance, vacation and sick leave, and holidays. The successful candidate must pass a pre-employment, post-offer drug screening and background check.
