We are looking for a creative and motivated individual to seed impactful design work that will redirect thinking about the future of urban safety and accessibility. Your role will involve creating compelling visuals that narrate the potential of Emergency Streets treatments through before-and-after virtual streetscape designs. The goal is to vividly showcase how an Emergency Streets response to specific incidents in Boulder over the past nine months, such as the event on Colorado Highway 119 in July, the crash at [http://alpine%20and%20broadway/]Alpine and Broadway in January, and the recent situation at 29th and Iris, could be addressed through proactive, temporary, speed-mitigating interventions.

Your expertise in graphics and your ability to reimagine and transpose Boulder’s existing streetscapes into slower-speed road designs will be vital. You’ll start by illustrating an Emergency Streets response to real-life events, setting the stage for a city-wide campaign. This is an outstanding opportunity to contribute at a foundational level to policy reform in Boulder, with the potential to ignite a national design movement and elevate public awareness about traffic violence and the role of speed reduction to address the problem.

This unpaid position is ideal for a self-starter, in Boulder or remote, looking to enrich their portfolio and make a meaningful impact to your community. Your work will not only highlight your talent but also position you as a thought leader in urban design and infrastructure reform. We are staffing up for other volunteer positions; please let us know skills you have that would advance the initiative, should this immediate opportunity not be a good fit for you.

To apply, please submit a three-paragraph cover letter by May 8 (to: kjkrizek@gmail.com and tilatila2@gmail.com) detailing your relevant experience, why you're passionate about this project, and how you envision contributing to the initiative. Please include representations of recent graphic work you’ve completed as the initial part of this opportunity focuses on creating graphics of alternative street scenes. Join us in paving the way for safer, more accessible streets and be at the forefront of a societal revolution to save lives.
