Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Transit Planner to join our team! In this role you will get to lead a diverse range of planning studies for our transit clients.


What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead transit planning projects, including data collection and research, transit analysis, transportation planning, traffic forecasting and modeling, corridor and regional studies, evaluating alternatives, and report writing
  • Lead the writing of technical reports and summary papers, and the development of model output summaries and other technical appendices
  • Define the problem to be studies, establish the work scope, prepare the budget and schedule, plan the work, provide technical direction, develop recommendations, and report on project status
  • Manage project teams by providing input, technical guidance, and supervision
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget, and provide quality oversight
  • Build and maintain client relationships and professional networks in the DC metro area and beyond


What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field
  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong reputation and experience working with transit agencies or DOTs in transit-related planning activities
  • Working knowledge of software packages typically associated with transportation/transit planning
  • Ability to lead complex assignments


What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Master's degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field
  • American Institute of Certified Planners Certification (AICP) or equivalent certification
  • Project experience spanning rail, bus, pedestrian, and bicycle planning, ridership modeling, stakeholder engagement, sustainable development, and climate change initiatives
  • Working knowledge of disruptive technology (e.g., ITS, Fleet Electrification, ZEB & CAV) and its applications in the transit sector
  • Business development experience, including leading and writing proposals
  • Experience with federal funding applications
  • Experience with NEPA and other environmental planning processes
