Central Virginia Planning District Commission
Lynchburg, VA
Regional Planner
Full-time

Plan the future of beautiful, dynamic, growing central Virginia! Some of the nation’s best-known natural and historical features mark the landscape of central Virginia including the Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, and Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. They surround the Lynchburg metropolitan area, a full-service urban area with a vibrant downtown, quiet neighborhoods, good schools, quality healthcare, and low crime rates. The region’s six institutions of higher learning and charming villages are nestled in the Blue Ridge’s foothills and the banks of scenic, accessible rivers.

Long a railroad town, Lynchburg’s passenger rail station offers three daily departures to Washington, DC, just a couple hours to the northeast. The region is within an hour’s drive of the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech and within two hours of the state capital. Urban bus transit serves the metro area, as does an on- and off-road bicycling network. Downtown arteries are undergoing transformation into complete streets, making the office convenient and accessible to neighborhoods of all types.
